NJ Newborn Photographer

Soft. Heartfelt. Timeless.
Your. baby's first days go by in a blur — let’s preserve them forever.

Planning Your NJ Newborn Photography Session

The first step in planning your newborn session is deciding whether you’d like it to take place in my Waldwick home studio or in the comfort of your own home. Both options create beautiful, heartfelt images; it all depends on the setting that feels right for your family.

Bringing home a new baby is a beautiful and busy time, and my goal is to make your newborn photos one of the easiest parts. Whether you choose my Northern New Jersey home studio or prefer an in home newborn photography session, I’ll create a calm setting where you can relax while I gently guide you and capture your family.

From booking to delivery, I walk you through everything so you know what to expect. In the studio, everything is ready when you arrive. For in-home sessions, I bring what’s needed and work with the light and spaces you love most to tell your family’s story.

Within one week of your session, you’ll receive an online proof gallery to choose your favorites. After you’ve made your selections, I’ll finish the edits and deliver your gallery within 1-2 weeks, along with artwork options I can help you select and design.

Types of Newborn Sessions

A lifestyle newborn session takes place right in the comfort of your home and is all about natural, candid moments with your new baby. Instead of formal posing, the focus is on capturing your family’s connection, your surroundings, and the little everyday details that tell your story.

We typically photograph in the nursery, living room and main bedroom, or any space with good natural light or special meaning to you. You’ll get a mix of relaxed candids and gently posed images. If you have older children, I’ll work to capture sweet, age-appropriate interactions between them and the baby.

There’s no need to deep clean your home — just tidying and moving things out of the areas we’ll use is perfect. Before your session, you’ll receive a prep guide with tips on what to expect, what to wear, and how to get ready. You’ll also have access to my client closet and the option to add professional hair and makeup to make the process easy and help you feel your best.

Lifestyle Newborn

In Studio Newborn

My in-studio newborn sessions take place in my home studio in Waldwick, NJ and begin at 10 a.m., usually lasting 2–3 hours. Before you arrive, all of my professional lighting, camera gear, props, wraps, backdrops and accessories are set up and ready — all you need to bring is your baby and a diaper bag. A few days before your session, I’ll send you a prep guide with tips on what to expect and how to get ready.

I keep the studio warm and cozy so your baby feels snug and content. Parents and siblings are always welcome, and we usually start with family photos so little ones can have their special moment before heading off with a parent or caregiver. You’re invited to use my client closet or add hair and makeup so you feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera. While I gently photograph your baby, you can curl up on the couch, nap, read, or simply enjoy a quiet moment together. There’s always water and snacks on hand, plus diapers, wipes, a bottle warmer and a changing pad ready for you. If your baby needs a feed, diaper change or extra cuddles, we’ll pause and take our time so everyone stays comfortable.

Where Little Moments Become Lasting Memories

My Photography Style

I’ve put together a beautiful collection of backdrops and wraps, swaddles — soft florals, gentle pinks, blues, greens and classic neutrals — along with high quality buckets, beds and bowls for posing your baby. I also have sweet bonnets, headbands and sleepy caps to complete each look. My style is soft and true to life, capturing those first precious days just as they are. With a calm, nurturing approach, I create warm, natural images of your newborn that you’ll love looking back on.

Every prop and accessory I use is chosen to complement my soft, classic style while keeping your baby safe and comfortable. Your little one’s wellbeing always comes first. All wraps, outfits and soft props are freshly laundered on a gentle cycle or sanitized with baby-safe products before each session. Wooden and hard props are wiped down, disinfected, and left to air-dry completely, so everything your baby touches is as clean as it is beautiful.

I’ve curated a collection of handcrafted props — beds, bowls, baskets and more — perfectly sized for newborns. Before your session, I set up two to three pieces based on your preferences from the questionnaire I send, adding a subtle, organic touch to your portraits while keeping the focus on your baby’s tiny features.

To complete each setup, I bring in coordinating accessories — cozy wraps, soft knit bonnets, simple headbands and other delicate touches — chosen to add just the right amount of charm without overwhelming the scene. You’re always welcome to include any sentimental items of your own. This thoughtful approach keeps each session feeling natural, classic, and uniquely yours.

I’ll personally help with sizing, design, and layout to ensure everything feels perfect, and you’re welcome to send me a photo of your space so I can suggest what will look best.

Parent & Sibling Photos at Your Newborn Session

One of the questions I’m asked most often is whether parents and siblings can be part of a newborn session. The answer is yes — your newborn session is a wonderful chance to create your baby’s first family portrait. Many of my packages include parent and sibling portraits, which is a beautiful way to capture this fleeting chapter for your whole family. Even if you don’t feel like being in front of the camera, you’ll be glad to have these memories to look back on.

When family and sibling photos are included, we start with those first. This lets older brothers and sisters have their special moment and then head off with a parent or caregiver, so we can focus on your baby’s portraits. I’ll gently guide and pose everyone so it’s quick, flattering, and stress-free — especially for tired new parents and wiggly little ones.

We loved our newborn photo experience with Steph! She brought swaddles for our baby and dresses for me, which made everything feel so easy. She was wonderful with our toddler, too. The photos turned out beautifully—I highly recommend Steph!

Newborn Session FAQs

It’s best to reserve your newborn session while you’re still pregnant — ideally during your second trimester — so I can save space on my calendar around your due date. The second trimester is also a wonderful time to book a maternity session while you’re feeling comfortable and showing just enough of that beautiful bump.

Studio newborn sessions are typically scheduled when your baby is about 7–14 days old, which is perfect for those sweet, sleepy, posed images. Lifestyle sessions can be done anytime in the first couple of weeks since they’re focused more on natural connection.

How should we prepare for our session?

For lifestyle sessions there’s no need for deep cleaning — just tidy the rooms with the best natural light (like the nursery, main bedroom or living room) and I’ll guide you from there. For studio sessions, all you need to bring is your diaper bag and any sentimental items you’d like included; I’ll take care of everything else for baby.

Before your session I’ll send a prep guide with tips on what to expect. I usually recommend keeping baby awake for 45 minutes to an hour before your session and giving a full feed about 30 minutes before we start so they’re comfortable and sleepy for photos.

Can siblings or grandparents be included?

Sessions are limited to immediate family only (parents & siblings). Grandparents are not included in newborn packages.

How long does a session last?

Studio newborn sessions typically last about 2–3 hours to allow plenty of time for feeding, soothing, and posed images. Lifestyle sessions are usually 60–90 minutes and move at a relaxed pace focused on connection.

What should we wear to our session?

Dress nicely but comfortably in colors that photograph well — soft neutrals like whites, creams, beiges or gentle pastels work beautifully and keep the focus on your baby. Simple pieces without busy patterns or large logos tend to look best. For studio sessions, I provide wraps and outfits for baby, and my client closet of flattering dresses for moms is available for both lifestyle and studio sessions. Since I mostly photograph from the waist up in the studio, you don’t need to worry about what you’re wearing on the bottom.

Preparing for Life with a Newborn in Bergen County

Welcoming a baby home is a whirlwind — exciting, emotional, exhausting, and full of wonder all at once. I spend a lot of time with families during those early, uncertain weeks of caring for a newborn, and over time, I’ve curated a list of local resources, professionals, and places I wholeheartedly recommend. My hope is that when you land here, you already feel a little more supported knowing where to turn.

Many of my clients choose either The Valley Hospital (Paramus), Hackensack University Medical Center, or Pascack Valley Medical Center for their delivery care. Valley Hospital is especially popular because it offers private birthing suites, a full Center for Childbirth, and a Level III NICU — the highest level of neonatal care in the region.

If you have questions about labor options, gentler C-sections, or doula support, Valley’s birth program also offers integrative techniques. Their Center for Family Education provides both in-person and virtual classes to help new parents feel confident and prepared.

Breastfeeding doesn’t always come easily, and having a trusted consultant can make all the difference. Two lactation consultants I often recommend are Rebecca Koyf, IBCLC and Little Milky Way. Both provide compassionate, evidence-based support during what can be an overwhelming and emotional time for new parents.

For birth support, postpartum care, placenta services, and more, my clients love Lizzy — The Fitness Doula
and Bloom Baby Doulas. Both offer personalized, heart-centered care to help you feel physically and emotionally supported before, during, and after birth.

When you’re deep in registry mode or shopping for essentials, these local favorites offer both expertise and selection: Bambi Baby (Paramus, NJ)— car seats, bassinets, strollers, and a hands-on shopping experience buybuyBABY — available online, with fast delivery and a wide selection of trusted brands

You matter too. For pregnancy massage, bodywork, and gentle movement, check out The Nesting Place (Ridgewood) and Perfectly Kneaded (Ridgewood). For prenatal or postpartum-safe fitness, Ho-Ho-Kus Yoga, Flow Yoga, and The Bar Method Ridgewood
all offer thoughtful, body-sensitive classes that focus on strength and restoration.

Let’s be real — you’ll need caffeine and a change of scenery. Soma Café & Crêperie in Waldwick, Rey Sol Coffee, and Sook Pastry
in Ridgewood (with gluten-free options for the girlies like me) are cozy, stroller-friendly gems for a quick recharge or a quiet moment out of the house.

On a nice day, James McFaul Environmental Center in Wyckoff is a peaceful place to stroll, breathe, and reset with baby in tow.

For those extra-special moments before baby arrives — or after — check out View A Miracle NJ in Hackensack for 3D/4D ultrasounds and heartbeat bears.

And of course, when you’re ready to capture the newborn chapter, my studio in Waldwick (just about 20 minutes from most Bergen County towns) is designed for comfort, safety, and beautifully natural newborn portraits you’ll cherish forever.

As a Bergen County newborn photographer, I love connecting families with local experts and small businesses that make those early days easier and more supported. My goal is for you to feel cared for — both in front of my camera and beyond.
