A few years ago, I really wanted to try my hand at Christmas Tree Farm Minis.
There was just one problem: every Christmas tree farm I found seemed to be at least an hour away! So, naturally, I kept looking.
That’s when I stumbled upon Bear Swamp Farm in West Milford, New Jersey, and immediately fell in love with this charming little Christmas tree farm.
I reached out to one of the owners, Allison, and arranged a time to come take a look at the property. The rest is history!
A Little About Bear Swamp Farm
Bear Swamp Farm has been family-owned and operated since the 1940s.
Today, the next generation of the family, including Allison, her husband, and other family members, continues the tradition by planting their Christmas trees every spring.
When the farm officially opens the day after Thanksgiving, families can visit to choose and cut their own Christmas tree. And if you’re planning to get your tree there, don’t wait too long! The farm typically sells out very quickly.

How to Prepare for Your Christmas Tree Farm Mini Session
Arrive 5–10 Minutes Early
Mini sessions are scheduled back-to-back, so unfortunately, I can’t extend your session if you arrive late.
Give yourself a little extra time for parking, getting everyone out of the car, fixing hair, putting on shoes, and finding us at the farm.
Trust me, your future self will thank you.
Bring a Snack for Little Ones
If your child gets hungry, a small snack can be a lifesaver. Just try to avoid anything particularly messy or colorful right before photos. 😉
A favorite small toy or comfort item can also be helpful if your child needs a little reassurance.
Don’t Expect Your Kids to Be Perfect
This is a big one. Your kids don’t need to sit still, smile on command, or behave perfectly for 20 minutes.
They are kids. I’ll give you prompts, games, movement, and things to do together so we’re not spending the entire session saying:
“Smile!” Instead, we’ll focus on genuine interactions and creating opportunities for those natural smiles and laughs to happen.

What Happens If the Weather Doesn’t Cooperate?
Welcome to outdoor photography in New Jersey. 😂 I keep a close eye on the forecast leading up to every session.
If we’re expecting heavy rain, strong winds, extreme cold, or unsafe conditions, I’ll reach out to discuss rescheduling.
For light drizzle or overcast skies, we can often still photograph your session. In fact, cloudy weather can create gorgeous, soft, even light that is incredibly flattering for portraits.
If your session needs to be rescheduled due to weather, I’ll provide a backup date whenever possible so you don’t miss out.
My goal is always to make the experience as smooth and stress-free as possible.

How many photos do we receive?
Your mini session includes 5 edited, high-resolution digital images. After your session, you’ll be able to view your gallery and purchase additional images or the complete gallery if you’d like more than the included five.
What if my kids don’t cooperate?
Don’t worry! Kids are unpredictable, and I completely understand that. I’ll use prompts, games, movement, and interaction to keep them engaged and create natural expressions. We don’t need perfectly posed smiles for every photograph. Sometimes the funniest, sweetest images come from the moments when your kids aren’t doing exactly what we planned.
Do you help with outfits?
Absolutely! You’ll receive my family photography style guide after booking, which includes outfit inspiration, color palettes, and tips for coordinating everyone’s clothing. You’re also welcome to send me photos of your outfit options, and I’ll happily give you my thoughts.
When will we receive our photos?
Your finished gallery will be delivered within 2–3 weeks of your session. That gives you plenty of time to order Christmas cards, gifts for grandparents, prints, ornaments, and other holiday keepsakes.
What happens if we’re late?
Because mini sessions are scheduled back-to-back, I cannot extend your session time if you arrive late. Please plan to arrive 5–10 minutes early so you have time to park, get everyone ready, and arrive at the session feeling relaxed rather than rushed.

What happens if it rains?
I’ll monitor the forecast leading up to your session. If we’re expecting heavy rain, strong winds, extreme cold, or other unsafe conditions, I’ll contact you about rescheduling. Light drizzle and overcast skies don’t necessarily mean we have to cancel. Some of the most beautiful outdoor portraits happen under soft, cloudy skies! If we do need to reschedule because of weather, I’ll offer a backup date whenever possible.
