This beautiful family recently came to see me for their sweet baby girls newborn session. As a Hoboken, NJ newborn photographer, I could not wait to have them here in my studio!
The Spreckman family were so excited to welcome their third baby into the family. Momma, Cheryl and Dad, Evan both came to the session along with their adorable daughter Melanie and son Cameron. Both siblings were very excited to take photos with their new baby sister, Brooke.
Cheryl contacted me while she was pregnant in her second trimester to book her newborn session. We had worked together before for Cameron’s first birthday cake smash session, and I was honored and excited to be taking photos of the newest addition to their growing family. I absolutely love when clients reach out again and I get invited to document another special milestone in their lives. Baby Brooke was just 11 days old for her session; which is right in that ideal 7-14 day window for newborn sessions where we get all those cute sleepy poses.
Family Photos
When they first arrived I decided to start with family photos, which allows us to capture those meaningful connections before focusing entirely on baby portraits.
Clients love these photos because they are some of the most important ones that really capture their family at that exact stage. I like to do a few variations of poses involving the entire family like: everyone looking at the camera, everyone looking at the baby, just mom and dad looking at me and kids looking at the baby. Those end up being some really sweet moments between the family. Then I do some photos of just mom and dad with the baby so they get images with their newest member.
After we finished with the family photos everyone else got to relax, and I moved on to individual newborn images. The kids played games with mom and dad while I focused on baby girl Brooke’s photos.

Baby Girls Photoshoot
Mom, Cheryl had requested pinks, purples, and creams for this session, so I decided to swaddle Brooke in an cream wrap and placed a matching bonnet on her head. I also tucked the cutest little felt bunny stuffy into her hands. Then I placed her in one of my all time favorite props- my wooden crate! This is hands down a client favorite and is so versatile. It just photographs so beautifully, and I could not wait to get Brooke set up in it. Once I snapped a few photos of her like that, I removed the bunny stuffy switched out the bonnet for a dainty pearl headband. She looked so peaceful and sweet in the crate, and these images ended up being some of moms favorite!

After I finished taking photos of Brooke in the crate I moved her into another client favorite, the heart bowl. She was still sound asleep, and I was able to position her in the bowl and place the bonnet back on her for this pose. The heart bowl is such a fun prop to use and it adds a touch of whimsy to the gallery.
Once we finished up with the heart bowl, I unwrapped Brooke and gently placed her into the pink floral bucket with her chin resting on her hands. The bucket is a highly requested prop, parents love seeing how small their baby looks in it. Brooke was such a dream baby and slept through almost her entire session! She made all her poses and setups really easy.

Wrapping up the session
The whole session took about an hour and I was really happy with the image variety I was able to get for the family! It just goes to show that a mini swaddle session can still get you a great amount of images for a more budget friendly option.
